Only time will tell. I don't know if I would ever breastfeed at all....sounds just too painful...and heck I was never breastfed. It isn't usually painful. Some women have some discomfort or pain during the first few days, as they and baby are learning what to do. But in the great majority of cases the pain stops after those first few days. Done 'correctly' breastfeeding is not painful. As for the fact that you weren't breastfed ... sadly that's true of most of us. While it's been well known forever that formula is an adequate, but poor substitute for breastmilk, our society, for the past few generations, has not been very supportive of the idea. Breastfeeding has always been seen as, at best, "Something nice if you can manage it, but not really that important" or, at worst, "Why would you want to be cow when you can just make up a nice simple bottle?"
