<snerk> Alex York is being held captive with the original Rachel, in a
maximum security installation somewhere in Area 51. Sam will *never*
notice the difference: the implant she received at birth (as every
American has since 1947) has been reprogrammed, so that she accepts
this new Alex as the child to whom she gave birth. Since Luka, as a
foreign-born individual, lacks this implant, he *knows* that Alex has
been replaced. But he's just going along with what Sam thinks is real
(and what everybody else will think is real, once the reprogramming has
fully taken effect), because he knows that revealing the truth will get
him deported.

No, he came in as a regular, even though he had a three-episode hiatus
almost immediately into the season; there was never really a "CarLuk"
because "DouCar" was still hanging in the air.
