This stuff bores me. ;) The only combat section of a rpg that I ever *enjoyed* reading was that in _Amber Diceless Role-playing_. A friend has raved to me about John Wick's _Orkworld_, which is much more culture and setting than system. She's raved about the worldbuilding, which these days I look for more in a rpg than system. I have my pick of systems that I know work well for me (L5R, Over the Edge, Fighting Fantasy, GURPS, others). But a good, well-thought-out setting--that's rarer. (Forgotten Realms IMHO doesn't qualify, though it can be fun.) However, I've been unable to pry the book from her even to borrow, so I can't tell you what I think of it personally. Has anyone else seen it? I'm rather enchanted by the idea of roleplaying orcs instead of humans...then again, I was the kid who played "dolls" with horses as the good guys and humans as the evil schemers (with She-ra action figures and horses, no less). > Also in the news: 3rd edition is going "open source". Well, maybe we'll see a greater variety of settings in xD&D computer roleplaying games...not that I have time for them anymore.
