InJoy at least ver 1.1 in the autostart modules configuration has the ability 
to disconnect before and after an external program is run, as well as setting 
exit upon disconnect. The killJoy and idle timers work best when you are 
setting to receive multiple threads simultaneously and can't predict when the 
last will be done. You set an idle timer and exit on idle and the external 
batch job restarts the mailer. Real slick and well worth the $35 or so 
registration.
