I have been using InJoy to connect and then IREX works fine over the
phone line.  I haven't tried to configure IREX to connect directly.  I
would assume (not having tried it) that DOIP would work as well.

Probably it would not make any difference.  I am at FP 13 level, but
InJoy has worked for me through numerous fixpaks.
