I) Multi -to- Single User: 1) Temporary: If you have not changed your /etc/inittab file ... - At the command line (from a group wheel login) enter 'init s' - If you want a custom environment and stuff, make sure you have a valid 'gshrc' file in '/bin/' with the 'gsh' file. 2) Permanent: - Change the '*/gno/initrc' file as follows: - Single User Mode: /bin/gsh gsh - Multi User Mode: /usr/sbin/initd init - Again, make sure a valid 'gshrc' is in '/bin/' with 'gsh'. - Otherwise you will have a default prompt, aliases and path. - This will scare you if you're not expecting it ... trust me!!! II) Single -to- Multi User: - I found the Multi-User installation a little confusing initially make sure you are comfortable with your single user first. - Make sure you are up to GNO/ME V2.0.4. - Install the Multi-User Package. - Install the Multi-User Update Package. - Read the readme docs carefully and configure: '/etc/passwd' '/etc/group' '/etc/namespace' and '/etc/rchost'. - Modify '*/gno/initrc' as above for Permanent(?) Multi-User. - Re-boot. (I hope I didn't miss anything ... oh ... customize like crazy!) Good Luck and Enjoy!!!! -------------------------------------------------- Steve Reeves wrote: >Sean McAfee wrote: >>Is there a way to switch from single-user mode to multi-user mode without >>reinstalling GNO? (I'm in multi-user mode now, and want to go back to single.) -- Sean McAfee | "Mind if I smoke?" mcafee@umich.edu | "No. Mind if I burp pastrami belches in your face?"
