AFC Softy : Don... the Apple II software fouls it up tho. Fred SoCal : Its been this way for about a month or two. AFC Softy : It's readable for everyone else. Fred SoCal : finally get on & I could hear it ringing. AFA Don : Everyone's been having problems, it seems. Fred SoCal : I was afraid of that, Don. AFA Don : My best guess is that they're cutting in more computer horsepower, running on reserve AFA Don : 'til they get the bugs out. In the long run, things'll be better. Fred SoCal : I seriously wonder if the big get together will be able to go off as planned.. Fred SoCal : on the 31st. AFA Don : Do you have another platform, Fred? Or will you be locked out after November 1... Fred SoCal : I will be locked out for quite a while. e 2 users still around. Be interesting to see.. AFA Don : I've gotta say that if you only see AO from the 2GS, you're missing some spectacular stuff... AFC Softy : Fred... everyone has had trouble getting on. SprintNet has been adding nodes to catch up with AFC Softy : the demand. AFA Don : AO has evolved into something very different, A2, of course, can't see the changes. AFA Don : Wish SprintNet would go 14.4 up here, I'd like to try that speed soon... AFC Softy : They're supposed to be installing 14.4 modems everywhere, Don. Just haven't got the software part AFC Softy : of it going. AFA Don : That's good news. I keep trying at 14.4, no joy. In Vancouver, WA, where I go online three or four AFA Don : times a year, there are NO nodes faster than 2400... And that includes Portland... ! AFA Don : What modem did you get with your PB 180, Larry? AFC Softy : Have you checked the 9600 area lately to see if there have been any installed? AFC Softy : PowerPort Mercury. AFA Don : yes, doesn't work. AFA Don : Same modem here. AFC Softy : Huh... AFA Don : I have trouble using the PowerPort Mercury driver with Mac 2.5.1, though. Hayes Basic works, though. AFA Don : Can't do long downloads with the PP Merc driver. AFA Don : Have you been able to access at 14.4? Fred SoCal : I have begun to get active on Genie and have been able to DL at 9600... AFA Don : I gave up on Genie a long time ago, cancelled my account. Fred SoCal : using Sprint net with only a $2/hr surcharge over the $3/hr regular fee. Fred SoCal : that just started about a month ago. AFA Don : I don't llike surcharges... Fred SoCal : It's my understanding that they are getting rop the surcharge and go Fred SoCal : to having that 9600 available on all Genie nodes. AFA Don : That'll be a good move for them... Surprised they didn't think of it earlier. Fred SoCal : Don't quote me on that as gospel, but that's what I heard. AFC Softy : Don... haven't been on at 14.4. But I'm using the PowerPort Drivers. AFA Don : Last time I was on, it was a surcharge for 2400! AFA Don : Maybe it's a conflict with something in the 170. Fred SoCal : Its been the same for 2400 and below for several years at least. AFC Softy : GEnie supposedly announced lower rates the same day as AOL announced theirs. AFA Don : I didn't have a problem with earlier beta versions, just happened when they upped to 2.5.1... Fred SoCal : Are you refering to CoPilot, Don? AFC Softy : Huh... well... they closed off the bug we get untilk the next AFC Softy : update. :) AFA Don : No, Fred, never used that... Fred SoCal : The latest update of CoPilot was v. 2.5 and ythat was about 3-5 months ago. BCS Frank : The crowds are growing restless, as we prepare here for the final nd that GEnie is working on a stand alone front end for the IIgs. BCS Frank : Apple II days on AOL. BCS Frank : It should be quite a bash. AFC Softy : (or some IIgs programmers are anyway. :) Fred SoCal : GEM has also been updated, I find CoPilot quite useful so haven't investigated. Fred SoCal : GEM myself. BCS Frank : Right, I think the GS specific front end is a 3rd party product. BCS Frank : afk.... Fred SoCal : Both CoPilot and GEM now work with ProTerm, TIC, Spectrum, and a few others. AFC Softy : I'm still debating on getting a GEnie account. Fred SoCal : Both CoPilot and GEM are freeware and easily DL from GEnie. AFC Softy : I probably should for a little while, just so I can keep up with the A2 news. AFC Softy : AOL is finally shipping Windows AOL 1.5 with magazines. Used to be just v1.1. BCS Frank : Well, with new software and hardware coming out for the GS, and the e/c, why not? AFA Don : I do enjoy being able to compute on my lap, in the living room.. AFC Softy : But 2.0 is coming out soon. Makes no sense sometimes. :) AFA Don : ...can't do that on the 2GS, but when I'm at my desk, the 2GS still shines... AFC Softy : I'm not giving up my IIgs either. Fred SoCal : I may get a laptop as my first Mac for that very convenience. AFA Don : I recommend it, Fred... Very convenient. Fred... it's been so long I forgot. :D AFA Don : Just short the coils that are in the monitor, it'll work almost as good... AFC Softy : But it's blue if I remember right.
