Incidentally, a huge thank you to @woozle and the rest of the team for giving me a genuinely amazing home on fedi since 2017! Almost 10 years on there! No complaints. If you want a multi-user instance to join that's super well moderated and run, please consider that one, or suggesting it to your friends. If it weren't for constant problems with not having reply controls on mastodon, I never would've left.

I can't express how satisfied it makes me that my default settings on GTS mean that any replies from randos have to be approved before they even show up. This is how microblogging should be. We all knew from long-form blogging days that having an unmoderated comment section was a horrible idea, so why do we do it on socmed?

I feel like we haven't even scratched the surface of what the weight of long covid and all the extra deaths are really going to mean for us in the long term. There's just so many people whose lives have been shut down in serious ways, so many people who are no longer with us who should still be.I don't know how long it'll take for us to start really coping with it, and doing something honest about it. We're certainly still acting, overall, as if it's just not actually happening (when it clearly is).
