Don't worry about rucking. Just walk every day. Some days I walk 5-6 miles. Other days I'm not feeling it at all and only do a mile or two. As long as you do something daily you'll keep from wasting away and stay in relatively decent shape.

Right. Every once in a while I'll have something with hfcs in it - a coke usually - and I'll feel like a zombie for a few hours afterwards, the memory of which keeps me from doing it again for a few weeks at least.

Ha. I lived in DC in the 90's. My friends and I used to go to Dupont circle because that's also where all the cool record shops and bookstores were back then. All manner of sexual deviants were seen on those excursions.
