       @georgia a lot of people have a weird idea that losing your individuality and merging with something great is worse than death. Very bizarre sentiment to me but it's the sort of thing that is axiomatic to a lot of people.

       @fiore they are used to being paid enough that they don't need to have solidarity.Also, I think office culture is precision manufactured to make you hate your coworkers and believe that whatever you're doing is deeply pointless. Which again makes solidarity very difficult.

       @Saorsa @georgia There are millions of people in the world who have never eaten meat in their lives, whose ancestors haven't eaten meat in several generations, etc. and they're fine. Ever seen one of those huge Sikh dudes? A lot of them are vegetarian.Veganism is harder to pull off because of so many weird rules (no honey, no unfertilized eggs, etc) but you can certainly be healthy and vegan.

       @kopper @fiore @julia @tragivictoria there are a lot of systemd components that have been spun off to into completely separate programs. Logind for example. Works great without systemd.As always, making systemd a hard dependency seems like a "we have a hammer and it looks like it will work on this nail" type of solution. I don't even mind if the flatpak project doesn't make any effort to officially support openRC or whatever, but it should be init system agnostic as much as possible, to reduce headache on anyone trying to patch it.

       @georgia @vriska sure but I think vriskas original point is still valid. The English never did like industrialized mass murder of the Irish, they just subjected them to horrendous living conditions, enslaved them, took their land, refused to help why they were starving, etc.

       @vriska @georgia to call anything in the middle ages "industrialized" is a bit of a stretch, and I think enslavement didn't really take off until the early modern period, with Cromwell and the like.Also I feel like the "just" I wrote could be taken to make it sound as if that doesn't make it a brutal genocide, which it absolutely is.

       @vriska @georgia the thing about the middle ages is that an army was like a hundred guys, and most states were practically powerless by today's standards. They just didn't have the capacity to do something comparable to a 20th-century genocide.But, I digress.
