@ariadne sorry if my question was a bit weird but i have been called "whore" after about two days of promising a bunch of Google Play gift cards and keeping them up to date with all the times i was told not to buy them at the store(i was pretending to be a 75 year old woman with scammers who hijacked a friend's real Discord account, did the "I accidentally reported your account, please email this address" thing, them needing increasingly more money to "escalate" the issue to Discord admins)

@dalias It's incredibly baffling to me how frequently it has been demonstrated in the course of uutils development how little people have referenced even coreutils CVE data or taken care to understand really basic things, like, /dev/tty or the file descriptor-oriented calls that make shit saferit seems less like an exercise in safety and more a clean room effort to relicense a thing in an ecosystem popular with the kids

i just replaced the keyboard and speakers of my wife's 2023 MacBook Pro 16" and i have no idea what the flying fuck the white shit inside both speakers (between the tweeter and sub elements) is. some sort of sound isolation stuff? i cannot find any documentation of this stuff.the speakers are closed assemblies so this wasn't just a case of somebody just throwing a shitload of flour into her computer. plus the powder more resembles very tiny pellets

currently getting birch to run on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger. thankfully the gdb that Apple provided 19 years ago still works with DWARF symbols emitted by gcc 4.8.15 (11 years old) so no worries therei thought my biggest hurdle would be errors where i was accidentally using 64-bit wide values where i meant to be using address-sized values, but nope! it would appear namespaces are broken on 32-bit somehow, so i've gotta fix that

so far fixes for PowerPC haven't been too crazy; no endianness-related issues, but mostly just a mismatch between sizes of values given to variadic functions, versus the sizes of values they pull with va_arg(), in the compiler. i did have one egregious data structure size calculation bug in namespace iteration that never manifest in 64-bit, but it sure did in 32-bit

oh! and i almost forgot, i did have a union of size_t and off_t which are NOT the same size on some 32-bit platforms! don't do that, especially on a big endian machine!
