@benroyce @abhayakara if they wouldn't harass people here, absolutely.I think there's a ton of Fox News viewers who would never ever tag a minority with mean shit, but go on and on about minorities ruining the country. I want them to follow their nephew here and see their nephew's minority friend being awesome.people always get better the less we live in bubbles.

I also argued that you too have views that others on the left wish they could never stumble upon here.Somehow you turned all that into me believing this place is for therapy for bigots. I do not.I believe this place can realize a marketplace of ideas vision but to do so, it must be as inclusive as possible.

@pfefferle @jeremy I'd like WP to output #APnative articles that I could directly boost or read later (or have read to me via TTS) via @wallabag. I'd like it all to work together so it automatically shows up in my queue there if I bookmark it here. An open but smooth ecosystem ala podcasting, but with the news feed and boosting of fedi built in.This kind of interoperability is our killer app to move people off the platforms. Serving readers and creators better without lock-in.

@pfefferle @johnonolan that's the one and I agree. but I think this format is better called a social news feed. the attention stream. how I tell anybody who cares to follow me, that an article is worth their time. I boost it. what you've done with making them #APnative is let me boost the article itself, instead of a post linking to it. then writers can see the shares and comments all on their blog. and readers could have it be managed by our choice of reader apps. enabling more innovation.

@Gargron imo social media isn't the problem but the algos are bad for everyone. are they considering chat rooms to be social media? I wish we'd all clearly distinguish the very public posting with boosts as social media, while calling most everything else social networking. I think my daughter did well chatting with friends while not being subject to corporate platforms.

@jeremiah @Zeb you don't like MAID, you'd rather the people who can't afford care suffer and die sooner. save the rest of us money.I'll agree costs go up when there's no pressure to lower them. I think we can have universal coverage and also better incentivize competition to lower costs. and better share the costs that remain among those who will only save less by paying more taxes.

@Gargron @lyss_lain for sure but I'd say boost a lot.imo you're asking a deep question nobody talks about anywhere. why does social media matter? and then why does it matter that it's decentralized? can't I just talk with my friends via text messaging or a group app like Discord or WhatsApp etc?public posting with boosts without owners, ads or algos means the public could decide what gets attention in society instead of the people with money that own the media. a civic/cultural revolution.
