       @itsfoss The ability to do an over-the-top refresh install that does NOT remove any of my home files.  I have systems that run right when I live boot, but the installed version of the OS lost the ability to detect my sound card.  I want to do be able to do a refresh install over the existing install to restore that functionality without having my home folder deleted as part of the refresh install process.

       @itsfoss I will probably try it in a VM. However, I will wait until Mint incorporates it into their next LTS release before I do anything with it as daily use (and even then, I will test in a VM first to make sure it works well for my needs on my hardware). I don't like the Gnome desktop and have not had good experiences with Ubuntu main since I tried 12.04 and 14.04 (I skipped 16.04, and 18.04 also did not work for me).  Kubuntu is my back-up OS so I may upgrade that to 26.04

       @itsfoss I have a feeling that Fedora Spins will have the same problem.  The base page is fine with Workstation, KDE, and four specialized versions.  But the Spins page can be a bit overwhelming with the choices, same as for Ubuntu.

       @gamingonlinux it is an interesting argument that a lootbox is in the same category as a pack of baseball or pokemon cards, or a comic book grab bag.  I don't play games with lootboxes.  I have been VERY disappointed with physical blind boxes the few times I've gotten them, felt that I was not getting my money's worth from them.  I feel like lootboxes would be the same thing.

       @internetarchive AOL on Windows originally used a windowing program called Geoworks.  That is how I got introduced to the program that became my first pre-Linux desktop.  I was a Geoworks supporter for years, even after AOL switched from using it.

       @SDF At 1730 UTC today (1230 EDT), I saw a message that the server was taken down at 1230 UTC for maintenance.  However, the server announcements said the upgrade only took 90 minutes.  I am trying to better understand the actual timing of the server upgrade based on the time I saw the message and the time stated in the server down message.

       @itsfoss Isn't this book already out of date?  It is based on what is currently the previous LTS release, and there have been enough changes to the UI and workflows that it is difficult to use with 26.04 and beyond.I had the same thing happen to me when I got a previous edition of the book which was based on 18.04 LTS, once the next LTS came out, a lot of the book was no longer usable.

       @itsfoss Xubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 10.04 were my first distros. 12.04's Unity desktop barely ran on my laptop, 14.04 Unity did not run at all. That pushed me away from Linux for a decade beyond a few live system tries.W10 ends, I do six months of distro hopping before I realized it was the desktop I should focus on, not distro itself. Mint Cinnamon became my daily OS. Lite was my back-up until I had unfixable sound problems with it. Kubuntu is now my back-up.

       @gamingonlinux I follow the Linux Mint hashtag and that contains a lot of non-English posts.  I ended up muting anyone that posts in non-English that I see due to the hashtag.  It is not an absolute solution, but does handle the frequent posters who use the hashtag.  I wish the mastodon server that I am on had the translation service, then I would not need to do the muting.
