I would love if someone told me why Wayfire properly scales my Wine applications up 2x, whereas GNOME doesn't scale them at all.Yes, I can set GNOME for 2x scaling, and everything scales great, except Wine applications.I switch over to Wayfire, works right away. What's different about how Wayfire does it?

I have begrudgingly started using Kagi as my search engine again.I'm not thrilled about it. They've made some decisions which I don't love, particularly paying Brave and Yandex for search index stuff. I was more troubled by their response to criticism of this, which basically said "we're here to provide neutral search", which I feel flies in the face of their mission to "humanize the web".My problem is that I depend on search for my job, and their metasearch capabilities outperform everything else I've tried. Plus, I can obliterate sources from ever showing up in my results, or results from my family. The latter is really important to me, particularly as I try to keep slop from influencing my household.Again, I don't love it. But it's the choice I made. Begrudgingly.

I genuinely believe that the Fediverse offers the best chance of recapturing the friendly, optimistic Internet I loved as a kid.We've got flaws, sure. I've been critical of aspects of fedi culture, and will continue to do so.But this place represents hope, and hope is where we start.

I updated my so-called "AI disclosure" page to clarify the frequency of when I use tools like Whisper for subtitles, and added a section about how when I use Google search to learn how topics are presented on that platform, it's slop now.https://veronicaexplains.net/ai-disclosure/

I don't know the scale that goes into something like Perifractic's phone (which I'm going to tongue-in-cheek call the "PeriPhone" but he calls the Commodore Callback).It's just plain too expensive to be interesting to me.About the neatest thing about it is buried in all the conversation about cost and trademark usage: it's running SailfishOS. On a flip phone. I am curious about how that works.Not "pay $500" curious, but curious.
