       The difference between talking to a machine learning model to write down my words and talking to a machine learning model to draw me a picture is that without the machine learning model I can still type all the words myself exactly the same. But can you draw that picture without the machine learning model? Can you make that music track you have asked a computer to synthesize for you yourself? I can. All I ask for is that the photographer does not claim to be a painter. Prompters are not artists.

       Today I learned that #ArchLinux-supplied #LMMS builds are lacking #ZynAddSubFX instrument plug-in. That completely breaks 100% of my old projects, which use Zyn for... everything.I asked the LMMS people and they told me to download an AppImage instead of using the repository-supplied builds.Software packaging, am I right?

       Generative "AI" is very similar to JPEG compression. The basic idea is you recognize patterns in input data, you encode the recognized ones, and then you reconstruct an approximation of the input data using the encoding and stored patterns. Only in JPEG there's a very small amount of patterns, which are little waves that are layered on top of each other to reconstruct the image in chunks. In ML there's billions of convolving patterns, so the comp. ratio is incredibly high.Fancy JPEG ate life.

       @wolf480pl Noise can mean many things. To some people metal music is noise. To some people pop is noise. There is a genre of noise music that uses lots of literal noise. In my upcoming EP's case, it's a lot of distortion, making thins stupidly loud, recording vocals with the mic being inside my mouth (sic!), destroying fidelity with pitchshifting up and down, making drums out of beatbox, playing cardboard box like a cajon, allowing singing that isn't perfectly in pitch, ultrasonic content...
