Take Google/Alphabet, Facebook/Meta, Microsoft,  Musk et al, Oracle, Palantir, Anduril, most of big-Pharma, etc, etc, etc. They all started out as or quickly became heavily involved with insiders of the military industrial complex and got their initial funding and marketing c/o taxpayer funding from their cronies in gov't. Even the iPhone was funded by DARPA. That's not really a gamble. It's a stacked deck.

       @sun When you learn about pre-Christian Scandinavian/Germanic cultures it starts to become pretty clear that a lot of that managed to remain status quo throughout the Christian era too. We don't really have a pure culture in that sense, but an amalgam of the various cultures that contributed over millennia. Even something like knightly chivalry which seems endemic to western European culture, is arguably an import from the Alan (Iranian-speaking people from the Eurasian steppe) cavalry units who were brought there by the Romans as mercenaries and left behind when Rome abandoned the colony.
