       I really love the design and story of Goutokuji Mike, beckoning cat catgirl from Touhou 18First, she is both a maneki neko and a calico cat, two luck symbols, though maneki neko is an eastern luck symbol, while calico is to my knowledge is more of a western one.But in story, her color that would be considered lucky in a different place, made her different and disliked, bullied, and eventually cast out of beckoning cat temple (that sounds stupid? I agree, racism is stupid). But Mike didn't let that discourage her and went to be an individual salesperson, proudly staying calico, and even wearing clothes of matching colors, despite dyeing hair being a simple "fix" she could do.Maneki neko is also a symbol related to commercial luck, so her new occupation makes perfect sense too. Also she states herself to be "Happily unemployed".Her ability is also balanced and well-defined, being undergrad cast out of temple, she can choose to either bring money _or_ luck, being more versatile, but she drives away what she didn't choose, likely leading her to unluckily meet heroines in game and get beaten by them for no good reason, when she tried to make money during game's events.Also, Mike doesn't just have a tomboyish design (especially in original sprite), she also is shown to raise her right hand more, which is a trait associated with male maneki neko. Which could be read as either trans thing or fuck gender roles and expectations thing. Both are cool.
