I was doing some data cleanup at work today, and came across this show from 2013 that Cable 10 Harvey produced for us, four years after they ceased to exist as a TV station and pivoted to being a satellite studio for us. Still using the Videonics MX-1 and TitleMaker 3000!!

An issue I have when it comes to taking the car to the dealership for regular service is that because they take the wheels off in the process, they want you to come back after 100 km to get the lug nuts torqued. But that 100 km is reached as soon as I get home from there. I normally go to the tire shop near me and get them to do it, but they *just* did it a few weeks ago when I had my tires switched, and it feels unfair to get them to do it again for work that another shop did.Enter this thing, which I got for $75, 55% off at Canadian Tire. I wasn't ready for this to be the nicest tool I've ever owned. It's in a plastic case with a calibration certifiate and everything. Dad would be proud.Turns out I don't have any 1/2" drive sockets, so I need to go back and get one of those before I'll be torqueing my nuts.

So, one of my Hi-Fi components just blew up, and I don't even know which it is. I turned on the Aiwa cassette deck and the Technics stereo receiver, walked to the other side of the room, and didn't notice anything until I turned around and saw that it looked hazy. Both units were still running when I cut power. Now I'm going to have to open them both up and bench test them.

I spent the evening working on the Sony WM-68. As I predicted, bad belts. After changing those, adjusting the speed and azimuth, and cleaning the head, capstan, and pinch roller, it's working pretty well, I think!The biggest issue I'm having with it is that the Dolby decoding is way too aggressive. Using Dolby on pre-recorded tapes make them severely muddy. Recordings made from the Aiwa AD-F770 come out better, but still a bit muddy. There are "Dolby Level" trimmers that are supposed to be adjusted with a test tape, but I have no idea if they have anything to do with the Noise Reduction. Maybe it's as simple as bad capacitors, but I don't know if I want to try tearing this down that far.This is a TDK SA tape recorded without Dolby. I also feel like it also has more flutter than it should, but maybe it's within spec? I had to replace one of the belts with a round belt because I didn't have a square of the right size, so maybe that's part of it too.

In my old bedroom at Mom's house, which is now where she does indoor gardening stuff. I found this 2x20 fluorescent light fixture, complete with plant bulbs, on the side of the road a few years ago. Mom painted it this nice blue, and we finally got it installed on my old shelf for her to put plants on.

They are going to build an AI data centre about an hour away from me. It's going to have a 190 MW fossil fuel power plant, and have a draw on the power grid equivalent to adding two more cities the size of New Brunswick's largest city. It will be the third largest carbon emitter in New Brunswick after the Irving oil refinery and another fossil fuel power plant.I'm crying reading our article about it. I live in one of the precious few places on this continent where you don't get sick from breathing the air, and they're going to try and fuck that up. I had hoped that the bubble would burst before it got to this point, but it seems like that won't be the case.People have protested the sale of electric cars here because our grid is so strained and under-maintained, and the cost of electricity here has skyrocketed the last few years. The cars are nothing compared to what this will be.

All cleaned up and fan motor oiled. Aside from some wear on the metal trim around the door button, this thing is super clean.I found a turntable for it, but it is not cheap, so I'm going to swap out the Sharp Carousel II for this, use this for a week or two sans turntable to make sure it keeps working, and then I'll bite the bullet :apartyblobcat: It'll also give me an opportunity to investigate the electronic issue the Sharp developed a couple of years ago, where convection cooking stops after exactly two minutes.
