       One thing I appreciate about Swift is that something like this works:let searchText = searchText // RHS is a propertyif !searchText.isEmpty, let parts = split(searchText) {}Though I wish this would work, even if the original searchText was non-optional:if let searchText = searchText, !searchText.isEmpty, let parts = split(searchText) {}Or even:if let searchText, !searchText.isEmpty, let parts = split(searchText) {}I'm not sure how else to temporarily scope the expression. #Swift

       I'm going to say this as a general principle:I think if let thing = otherThing, thing.condition() should be valid, whether otherThing is optional or not.Nothing really replaces it. guard is opposite in that it scopes it for the rest of the function. I want to scope it only for the if's warm em-braces.Apologies for the pun, but @josh made it happen somehow.  #Swift

       Watching Babylon 5 again, part way through season two. The overall plot holds up, but a lot of the individual scenes seem so stiff and the cut points seem crazy. Michael O'Hare was not the problem with the first season; I blame the scriptwriter*. Yes, I think that's JMS in most cases.It needed another pass, although maybe we just have the 1990s to blame. There's definitely been a pull towards more realistic behaviour onscreen over the last 30 years. #Babylon5*-And yes, the CGI explosions.

       I really like the way B5 slowly introduces plot elements in season one, like the repeated hammering of the existence of souls within their universe. My big complaint about season one is the first look at the shadows was too lingering. Less would've been more, especially with the S1 CGI. I guess there was no way of knowing S2's CGI would be so much better.Also, a scene early in season two makes it look like Morden is making their decisions, which of course is ridiculous. #Babylon5

       The scenes with Michael O'Hare aged up in Babylon Squared make me wonder exactly how late the decision to write him out came. I thought they'd decided before that. Maybe it was a way of explaining if his actor never became available for the other half of it. #Babylon5
