       I spent several hours yesterday trying to trace my great grandparents' lineage to see if I'm eligible for Polish citizenship. Because, you know, USA is gonna USA. Unfortunately I hit a dead end. They left when Poland wasn't actually a country yet (1906-ish) and were naturalized on the 1930 census form that I found. In theory they could have naturalized after 1920, which is one of the rules to use ancestry for Polish citizenship, but I'd have to get naturalization records. Even then, I need a birth certificate from Poland for at least one of them.But how cool is it that I found that document? I did end up on Poland's records site and birth records from 1888 are just photographs of long paragraphs of who knows what language in these big old books. I'm kinda surprised they survived WWII.Also, why so much goddamn cursive in these times? Can't decipher half the stuff written down. I think I found my great grandfather in the Ellis Island records, but no luck with great grandmother. Oh well, it was a fun exercise.
