       does anybody know of security cameras that DON'T automatically connect to the internet? ideally I'd really like a camera or two but i absolutely don't want to provide footage to Amazon or any other corporation. i just want something that'll stream locally, where i tell it to go and that's it. ... i might just need to get some webcams and single board computers and write my own software and call it a day... but i figured it's worth an ask.

       pet peeve: when local organizations, events, businesses etc forget that the internet is worldwide and stuff gets boosted to people all around the world both manually by humans and (on most platforms) algorithmically.but yes i would love to go to your event on main street.... if i had ANY CONCEPT of what city you were in!?please please please if you are advertising for an in person thing, include location data with enough detail to disambiguate globally!!(even city+state/province/whatever or just city if it's someplace big enough to have a mononym (i know where nyc is. or Paris. or Berlin. unless it's, like, Paris, KY or something in which case DISAMBIGUATE))

       It has been a lifelong goal of mine to have my own library - to that end i have been collecting books most of my life.One thing that i've always wanted to add is a catalogue - preferably one that allows me to loan books to friends and keep track of it (because why have books if not to share!)I have googled around but have not found anything great - tbh, i'm considering just doing a shared spreadsheet at this point.But if you have your own library catalogue or have used any such software, I am VERY interested to know and hear any tips and tricks you might have!!as always, bonus points for #FOSS but interested in hearing about anything that works.:boosts_ok_gay: #library #librarian #homeLibrary #books #bookstodon

       #metal is such a broad, far reaching genre; it's always real awkward when you run into someone and discover you're both metal fans and then also discover neither of you have ever heard of any of the bands you each like and then you try listening because yay new music but then it turns out you mostly like #doom and #sludge while the other listens to some -core or other. we still respect each other as metal fans but don't try to share recommendations anymore 😅
