I never understood why people do not want to know stuff or understand stuff or be able to do stuff.Sure nobody wants to know/understand/be able to do _everything_ but the current "LLM does t all, I just prod it" is super alien to me.

A lot of the time when people argue that we should look at the opportunities of "AI" instead of always looking at the damages, that "AI" just won't go away I mentally replace "AI" with "child labor" and it really shows how people think about the world.

Higher education should not just be free but everyone should get financial support while doing it. Do what you want and get paid to be able to. Doesn't matter if it's STEM or art or humanities.

"But you can't deny that it's useful" is what I hear often when I criticize "AI". But that's not the argument because everything is useful to someone for some purpose usually at someone's cost. "Child labor" is _useful_. Question is: Do the uses bring more social value than the cost?

The tech sector's fall from grace should show us that the path to a more convivial life does not emerge from purchasing individual consumer technology. Those devices are build to alienate and isolate us.A lot of the time the "convenience" they promise mostly means "you do not have to meet and talk to other people".

In Yesterday's IO Keynote Google declared war on the remnants of the Web.While they packaged it as a lot of "AI" talk what their whole approach of decontextualizing information, of taking away links to sources and instead producing some LLM generated response means is that they want to establish a new abstraction layer on the web. Where Zuckerberg with his Metaverse failed Google is starting the next attack: Your website, your work no longer matters. Well it matters as (unpaid) raw material for their synthetic text extruders but not as cultural artifact you can share with others. This is a literal revolution but one against the participatory web, against us: The goal is to take away the web and guide people into Google's abstraction on top of it. An abstraction they control and moderate. It's about monopolizing access to information.If you care about the web, about people's ability to participate in it as more than mere passive consumers, this needs to be taken seriously. De-Googlifying your mental apparatus becomes more urgent today. Find other search engines, don't use their browser. Or wake up in a slopified AOL kind of environment.
