if activists focused on teaching people how to learn, including proper research practices, logic, probability, and so on, instead of specific issues, humanity would improve orders of magnitude faster lolfor as long as people believe things based on vibes rather than research, injustice will remain, ignorance will remain, and bigotry will remain, their targets will simply changesomething far more fundamental is needed if you want to actually end those problems, people need to learn how to learn, not just learn that they're wrong about a specific thing

most times people say something is subjective, they actually mean they personally arbitrarily came up with what they think and they assume others did the sameand the worst part is, most of the time that assumption is correct, most people come up with most things they believe based on essentially zero research, just vibesbut that doesn't mean they're subjective, an objective reality is usually still there, it just means most people leave whether they end up being right up to chance, rather than actually researching a subject

for the love of lain people need to stop talking about abstract terms like "metadata", "private", or "secure" and start thinking about what specific kinds of information a protocol actually leaks and what concrete attacks may be possible with that informationthe level of vagueness privacy influencers, and by extension most people that are interested in privacy (since very few of them actually bother doing any actual research), talk with is outright dangerous, a youtube video about a blog post cannot replace reading a specification</rant>, but god this is way too common of a problem lol

@brettm@swarm.coiloptic.org operating on pointers isn't really a thing unless you mean pointer arithmetic to get to another value in contiguous memory, operating on anything a pointer references fundamentally requires dereferencing it, even if it may be syntactically ambiguous in some cases due to zig's automatic dereferencing when accessing fieldsPointers are more performant for passing something to a function or similar contexts where assigning a value directly would entail unnecessarily copying it and the value itself is larger than the size of a pointer (namely complex structs)
