@soller Is System76 (and friends) going to have a policy against LLMs?I'm running PopOS on a Thelio right now and I'm worried about slop infecting PopOS and the new Cosmic Desktop (which looks very promising, although I haven't updated to the latest PopOS because I need to figure out how to backup my computer first).

@xgranade AI boosters will never actually do this, tho they might claim to. All they want are excuses to ignore damage from AI, so they can do what they want to without criticism or pushback. It's not good enough to have all the money in the world on their side, they don't even want to see dissent.Instead they will tell you how it's not as harmful as you think, or it's less damaging than other things people accept, or the harms will be fixed soon, or it's worth it to build an enslaved god.

@kalviter @zzt Code is a form of communication that must both deliver clear instructions to the computer *and* explain itself to other humans, so that the software can be understood, maintained and improved. (And help programmers learn, ideally.)LLMs are an assault on not just art, but all communication. (Art to me is about communicating the ineffable / indescribable, like sharing feelings themselves instead of just a discussion about feelings.)Alternately, communication is an art.

@ska @navi Considering Gmail "too big to fail" is very... optimistic.Google can and will destroy anything in their control, up to and including Google Search. Look at the Google Graveyard! Is Google really a company you should trust with anything? https://killedbygoogle.com/I also use Gmail and I'm typing this from Android, but I live in fear of these becoming untenable overnight. I would spend a lot of time, money and effort to achieve stability elsewhere. Google may continue, but will Gmail?

@mntmn OMG this is amazing! I might have to get a Pocket Reform now, because my favorite keyboard (that I'm typing on now) is the Planck EZ, and QMK should allow me to replicate my layout eventually on the Pocket Reform:https://configure.zsa.io/planck-ez/layouts/9wqxW/latest/0My understanding was that my layout is too complicated for the stock firmware (but I'd be happy to be proven wrong about that too).

@ariadne If I name my body pillow, does it become a plushie? If not, what if I add eyes and a mouth? How much character does it need to have before it crosses the line into plushie territory? Anyway I did sleep with a teddy bear pretty late into adulthood, but the body pillow was more useful/comfortable for my adult size.

I'm a parent with a 9-month old baby looking to chat with other parents. Can you recommend fedi accounts of parents with younger children who talk about parenting? @ariadne One possible line is whether the bridge does sufficient moderation to make up for Bluesky's moderation failures. If Bluesky hosts content you would suspend a fedi server for, and you can't get the bridge to block it either, then it's essentially an inadequately moderated fedi server.The only reason not to suspend in that case is if Bluesky is "too big to fail", but many fedi servers have suspended Threads (which looks bigger in theory).I'm not voting b/c I'm not on your server.
