My first #fountainpen arrived along with a converter and 10 tubes of black ink. Apparently it is the "Jinhao A570". $1.67 bundle and it feels a lot like a pilot G2 gel pen (my go to writing instrument) which is the same price... But this comes with 10 tubes of ink and a refillable tank for any fountain ink. A huge step up from those Bic ballpoint pens and pretty comfortable to use so far. I'll need to do more writing to really decide whether fountain pens are better than modern gel pens. $1.67 for at least a year's worth of writing is still nice, and future refills being cheap and eco friendly is nice. It isn't "feathering" the printer paper I'm trying it out on, so that's nice.I'm interested in fountain pens because people say they are the best kind of pen to write with (low pressure/force, steady ink flow) and are also forever pens, which appeals to me.Getting italic nibs with fancy colored inks also seems fun.Later this week, I have a few more pens coming, maybe I'll write up a formal blog post about my adventures into nerdy pen world....2026_07_05_17_45_21_1.jpg2026_07_05_17_45_22_2.jpg2026_07_05_17_51_59_3.png

@backtoanalog After typesetting, printing, and case-binding a few books, it just seemed natural to me to invest in a few nice pens. It's great fun! Sadly I am in remote Indonesia so the local "pen game" is a bit wanting. My FIL was big on fountain pens in his youth -- he's a doctor and fairly analog -- talked about how "Parker" fountain pens were the big thing. So I ordered him one with custom engraving, I think it'll mean a lot to him :-) Feeling some parallels between the FP community and tobacco pipe community: ecological, economical, tools you keep around (and maybe collect)... ham radio as wellNext pen coming in is an asvine P20 which reddit seems to love. One of the best arguments in favor of ymd: sorts nicely!Dmy is like twelve hour time: it works but people should really know better. (anyone who says 12pm or 12am should be slowly lowered into a cauldron of boiling oil)

why is the first thing any woman does when she sees my expensive fountain pen is, wait until i step away / am not looking, pick it up and screw the piston shut so all the ink in the reservoir comes out and then complain about it leaking I am instituting a policy of not letting people use "my special pen"

@p lately i'm wife's language coach as she learns #esperanto; she already speaks like 4 languages so she's picking it up pretty fast. maybe this is kind of a normal husband-wife activity for #fediverse people. if she ever wants to learn spanish or french or something (if we go to europe) i'm sure it'll help her a lot.... Indonesian is kind of like an actually existing auxlang / conlang so there are some cool parallels. In some regards I would say Indonesian is more like toki pona than esperanto
