       @azonenberg FWIW, I use the super-basic ‘macosvm’ CLI* for spawning my ephemeral arm64 macOS CI runners.All the options you listed and this one just use Apple’s own Virtualization.framework for virtualising arm64 macOS. So feature wise they have parity for this specific purpose. Other guest OSes are usually implemented via the lower level Hypervisor.framework so will vary greatly in features.Metal works in VZ.fwk, but only baseline features.* https://github.com/s-u/macosvm

       @azonenberg For bridging a similar gap, I got one of those optical Thunderbolt/USB4 cables (15 metres!) and put a Thunderbolt hub on the other end. That comes with a XHCI controller for the classic USB devices, so it doesn’t matter that the optical cable lacks the legacy data pair.Probably not the cheapest solution, and requires a USB4/TB capable host.(FWIW, I got the cable much cheaper via Amazon Warehouse, someone had evidently returned a new one and made a mess of the box.)

       @mntmn Yeah, for CI in particular, Forgejo doesn't seem anywhere near as flexible as GitLab yet. For our purposes, I may just have to put our GitLab instance behind a VPN and freeze its version to a reasonable one indefinitely. Set up Forgejo and get the repos mirrored across the 2 systems, then start gradually moving tasks/issues etc. and eventually tackle the CI situation.

       @mntmn Are you sure this thing supports UDIMMs? I was under the impression the Ampere stuff needed RDIMMs, but I might be wrong. Does the board vendor provide a list of compatible RAM and is there something vaguely matching the spec of yours?

       @azonenberg I don't know about precheck or the US more broadly, but I've had my stuff explosives-swabbed numerous times by airport security in a few countries. It just seems to be a random thing, and I guess it makes sense to swab your phone because it's something most people touch after just about any activity, so there's a high chance they'll find traces of substances you've been handling.

       @azonenberg Oddly enough, I don't remember them ever swabbing my hands; usually bags. I clearly remember they swabbed the kids' car seats at check-in at Cairns (Australia) because the swab fell off the "wand" mid-swab and disappeared into the hinge between seat and back rest. I had to unwrap and partially dismantle the seat to get it back out.

       @wolf480pl @david_chisnall As I understand it, it covers any instance of investing further capital, effort, time, even emotions, etc. into something after already having invested a considerable amount, in the hope of saving the prior investment from being in vain, in spite of it being plainly irrational to do so. (Because it has become clear the expected return is zero or worth much less than the prior or subsequent investment.)
