       A re-#introductionHi, I'm Paul. I'm a computer musician and researcher, currently thinking about lyricism what it means for a computer to sing. I explore quirky vocal synthesis DSP algorithms and try to control them in interesting ways.As a musician-turned-programmer, one of the things I try to do is build resources for topics related to audio programming and DSP that I wish I had when I was starting out. My aim is to empower digital musicians to "dig in" more and craft their own toys and tools for their work.I also bake a lot. Expect many pictures of bread and croissants here, among other things.

       Over the past few months, I've put my life on hold to work on this silly project I've been calling the Gestlings. Originally intended to be an etude series, it has grown into a tiny world full of chatty critters.Well, nearly 130 logged hours later, and here's the teaser. What you see and hear was generated in my computer music software ecosystem, where both the audio and video rendering pipelines were written from scratch.So, I'll step aside and let the Gestlings do the talking now, as they perform their rendition of "Welcome to Gestleton"!

       @mntmn I used to have fun playing with various music trackers on Linux. Renoise, Milkytracker, Schismtracker. JACK is a really cool and unique idea, and when it was around, non DAW fully embraced JACK and the unix philosophy applied to sound. I've used a fair amount of computer music tools like Csound, PD, Faust, ChucK, etc. And I've built many of my own tools, as one does.I really miss polished tape-based multi-track workflows like those seen in Reaper and ProTools. You can move really smoothly in those. It feels an awful lot like working in a text editor like vim/emacs. I know there's Ardour, and I respect the project, but it always feels rough around the edges when I try to use it.
