@stux if NATO and EU leadership isn't planning for a future in which not only will the Former US *not* respond to a Russian invasion, but actively encourage and assist it, they are complicit in their own extinction. The front-line states all need their own nuclear deterrent ASAP. Same for South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.

@domi while very much not an SMP machine, historical note: the first hypercube (ca. 1981) was the Caltech Cosmic Cube, built with 64 8086/8087 processors. I wrote a little code for it at the time - not fun!

@Ambulocetus my Dad was a USAF officer commanding a photo-interpretation intelligence group in Japan in the early 1970s. He later said he knew his Soviet counterpart well, and when we went down to Expo '70, talked with him on the Shinkansen. At the Expo he apparently used me as a decoy to get better pictures of the (Edit: Soyuz) capsule while the Soviet booth attendants fawned over the tiny American child. I still have a Young Communist pin from that trip.

@mwl the one time I hired immigrants from the HD parking lot to do a move, they busted their butts non-stop for a flat fee, were quite careful, and put off lunch in order to get done more quickly. I think they were mostly interested in getting done and getting home, or onto the next job as quickly as possible.Big contrast to the American movers I hired a couple of times, and the Russian immigrants another time, who were neither fast, nor on-time, nor very willing to wear N95 masks correctly.
