There is a huge amount of research going back decades showing that male and female brains have differences on average, but have no distinct sexually dimorphic features that can be used to identify any particular brain as belonging to either sex.But of course decades ago research showing no difference between male and female brains was fashionable as 3rd wave feminism was ascendant in academia. Now with the rise of 4th wave, the opposite has come into vogue. So who can say, it's Lysenkoism all the way down 🤷♀️Science advances one funeral at a time.In a generation or two, we should know something about it.

Because the flow of traffic crosses sides, you can take a 'free' turn onto the highway in either direction, theoretically increasingly efficiency. It won a national infrastructure award in 2012 and cities all over the county raced to be the first to build one. I have one a couple miles from my house, I would see accidents there every week or two for 2 years before everyone figured out how not to drive into the oncoming lanes.

There's a logical fallacy that used to be called "the bad toupee fallacy". It's a kind of bias where you believe the examples you see make up the whole set. Someone may say "toupees are so bad, I can always tell when someone is wearing one." The fallacy is that you only see the bad toupees, the good ones you never notice.In the 90s professors noticed that students didn't have much experience with spotting toupees (I don't know if toupees fell out of fashion, or if toupee technology has advanced). They now call the fallacy "the bad boob job fallacy".

Nextcloud is a great gateway drug to self hosting. You set it up thinking it's just a file server, but then you add Talk, and Recipes, and News, etc. And a whole new world opens up. But then after a week or two you start noticing all those add-on apps aren't very feature rich. You do a little web searching see if you can do anything, and you see all these other RSS reader apps that are way more featureful. But you think to yourself "I don't know anything about running an RSS reader". But then you think to yourself "it can't be any harder than setting up nextcloud". And before you know it you have a full arr stack feeding jellyfin. I've seen it 1,000 times. ...well, maybe more like 100 times — okay, it was one time. It was me, alright, that's how I started my homelab. You got me.

I had a computer in my bedroom as a kid, but it didn't have internet. I played whacky wheels and comander keen and wrote stupid little qbasic programs on it. learned a heck of a lot dinking around with it. Just crack open the case of an old laptop and disconnect the antenna wires from the wifi card. Anything they need to download, they can use your laptop under supervision and a thumb drive, otherwise let them go nuts with it like it's 1996 🤷♀️
