       @_thegeoff Try it over here on our side in America.We were literally the "melting pot" country.  We literally called ourselves that for a time.But somehow through a long campaign of hate and ignorance people were taught that the things that once made us strong somehow are really bad and should be stopped at all costs.

       @minentromaxinfo @_thegeoff Well, "melting pot" never meant that, but it also wasn't said or taught for long I guess.And I'll concede that America has had this same issue multiple times before.  We're very good at hate definitely.  I'm just saying that it's a country that was formed by people coming over in the first place and has always consisted of that until pretty darned recently, so that's the lack of self-awareness that we are at at this point.

       @slowcoding @dalias This is what I call a "reverse appeal to authority" fallacy.  There's probably a better term for it, but anyway, it's the fallacy of claiming that only if someone is an expert in a thing they can truly understand the thing.For example, I'm not an expert on the exact mechanisms of calculating every detail about gravity, but I can still tell you that jumping off a cliff is bad and why.

       @slowcoding @dalias First of all, see the term "helicopter parent."  I'm not sure if you've heard it or not:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopter_parent#EffectsChildren *need* some level of independence.  You rob them of something very important.  It also tends to drive them to find ways around your surveillance and to act out.  I think we've all experienced that sensation as a kid, but helicopter parenting results in the kid feeling it *all* the time.  The rebellion is actually more of a self-defense if anything...

       @slowcoding @dalias Speaking of which, that's another thing people forget as they use "have you been a parent" to decide if people know anything about kids or not:  the actual question you should be asking is "have you been a kid before?"  You might be surprised how many would say yes.  We've experienced being a kid and we know what it felt like, just it's easy to forget...

       @stux They're using the fact that he is still technically alive to keep him from being replaced, but honestly, if his stroke messed him up this much I just don't see how he isn't officially non-functioning enough to be replaced anyway...
