This is very niche on multiple axes, it's ok if you don't get it

@bugaevc Any object that is sufficient to prove your identity merely by having possession of it - and no it's not surprising that kerberos tickets fall into that, but people often don't think of them that way

RE: https://fediverse.zachleat.com/@zachleat/116845291090365543Obviously everyone knows that Vic Gundotra killed Reader, but he didn't succeed immediately. He could destaff the project, but people could still spend 20% time maintaining it. It was inevitable that it would die, but what the final blow was a standard Google outcome - load bearing infrastructure was going to be turned off, and everyone had to port their project to the replacement that didn't really work yet. Reader just didn't have the resources, so died.RT: https://fediverse.zachleat.com/users/zachleat/statuses/116845291090365543

(An especially funny version of this is that Google Hangouts lasted a year longer than it should have done, because Google Cloud Print depended on Hangouts, so they threw resources at maintaining it so they could have an orderly deprecation)

TPMs are single threaded and can't sign more than about 10 queries per second so we simply put all dynamic content behind a proxy that requires a TPM backed client cert and solve the scraper problem that way

Would this be a privacy nightmare and also provide the infrastructure to require remote attestation to arbitrary sites yes it would but people do seem very excited about stopping these scrapers

Really really wish the "Elop killed non-Android Linux in the phone market" meme would go away given how every single other attempt to ship non-Android Linux in the phone market has failed with the exception of cases where the Chinese government has actively required it

You're the new CEO of Nokia and the company has bet its entire future on a platform that hasn't shipped yet and has no compelling third party developer support and you're going to ship one high end phone running it this year and nothing else and it's not even clear when you're going to be able to ship any others and Microsoft is willing to throw a bunch of engineering support at you to ship Windows quickly, what do you do

People should actually re-read the burning platform memo, this is not the voice of a man who turned up to kill Nokia, this is the voice of a man who turned up to find Nokia was already fucked and took what seemed like the only available option

Maybe things would have been different if S60 hadn't done everything they could to delay Maemo, including a forced replacement of the entire UI toolkit so the (non-existant in comparison to Apple or Android) Symbian developer community had a porting strategy

@ariadne there's a PDF of a closely related chipset floating around that handles the DTMF and ringing and dial tone side of things and otherwise is a USB soundcard so how hard can this be
