LLMs can't lie. their output is, within their statistical model, always the most probable series of words given their input, to the extent that the "temperature" lets it be. when reading the output of it, it may not line up with reality, but to the same extent that a "our enemy did this, how do we know? coinflip" doesn't mean the coin lied, LLMs don't lie either. their output just often doesn't correspond with reality.lying requires the writer or publisher has malice. being incorrect only requires incompetence, which can be the fault of the reader for coming to conclusions on meaning where there isn't any.
