       @Gargron The thing that bothers me the most is the sound quality. Older things took pains to be audible. Modern stuff, half the time I can&#39;t understand what they&#39;re saying. But it&#39;s not my ears. I go back and listen to older stuff, and it&#39;s still clear.

       @justine vi in OpenBSD *is* nvi, I thought. It&#39;s hard to imagine them digging up Joy&#39;s code and including it for fun.But of course if they&#39;ve done something interesting there, I&#39;d love to know about it.

       @Paul_Taylor A big part of the answer is teaching more folks to run their own email systems. There&#39;s a shameful tendency for tech people who should know better to warn people off running their own email servers, which makes it worse. I teach people to run their own email, and people generally love the freedom it gives them.

       @mhoye Not that the BSDs are in any way a bad option, but don&#39;t forget that it&#39;s entirely reasonable to use Debian without systemd. I&#39;m doing it now.It&#39;s well-supported by active volunteers:https://packages.debian.org/trixie/sysvinit-coreAnd there are other good options: Slackware and Alpine stand out. Gentoo is a bit heavy with its config syntax, but it&#39;s a super solid option.
