@Jes unfortunately doesn't, only split screen :/Google really dropped the ball with the software on Pixels recently, I keep finding really annoying bugs… they can't even get the touchscreen to work reliably, it will start getting ghost inputs randomly. And this has been an issue since at least the pixel 4a which is such a joke

@Jes 90% of why I got a Pixel is that if shit gets bad I can unlock the bootloader and use a different OS without any bullshit, Samsung doesn't let one do that. Well you can unlock the bootloader technically but it will blow an efuse to disable some security features permanently and good luck finding any third party OS in the first place…

@nicole4fox Saying it's just a tool kinda completely ignores the social context it exists in.Linters and LSPs never needed the sheer amount of exploitation to create that LLMs do.but one can also use a locally trained model on the latest MacBookAs far as I know, it's not possible to train a useful LLM model on a MacBook, within reasonable timeframes. You can use one that was trained with lots of nonconsensuslly scraped data like what Google did with Gemma, this doesn't solve most of the ethical issues.These large models tend to rely on exploiting people in impoverished countries for labelling and moderating content that then gets used for training, this is not possible to circumvent with the most common open-weight models.The problem available local models solve is ridiculous resource usage during inference, they don't solve any of the issues with training.AI is useful for some things, when you have so much data to sift through that it would be unfeasible to do manually it can be helpful, provided you can accept a level of failure in the task. That said domain specific ML models tend to be much better at that than LLMs specifically.But we've seen how people used Gemma to sift through code and find malware, or speed up reverse engineering, or empower disabled people to slap together makeshift accessibility solutions that noone else would make for them. There's good uses for these tools but the costs are also very real.The official goal for these AI companies is to make intelligence a subscription utility. That doesn't really sound like a fun world to live in for me. Nor does prompting a chatbot for programming as a job because at that point physical labor sounds more fun.Coding agents tend to remove your familiarity with the codebase, this is extremely bad for open source projects specifically from what I've seen because if you don't have people who know what is where and why it's there, you end up with shit like homebox where someone prompted their way to porting SQLite-specific database code to also run on PostgreSQL, except the end result is a nonsensical clusterfuck that only doesn't immediately break on SQLite because of its weird behaviors like silently setting a negative number to zero instead of throwing an error when doing pagination. The correct thing to do would have been to reject the whole idea of adding PostgreSQL support to that project, because it's at a scale that will never need anything beyond SQLite, and the preexisting code was database engine specific. Porting that kind of code is always hell and full of pitfalls.

Looking for UD-EMR stylus recommendationsFound a list someone published in 2022 - Wacom one pen CP91300B2Z has a shape that looks really nice, one side button, no eraser- Wacom one standard pen CP92303B2Z is unremarkable shape, two side buttons, no eraser- Staedtler Noris Digital has two versions, a longer thinner one with no buttons and no eraser, and a shorter thicker one with no buttons and an eraser- Lamy Al-Star EMR look like a pen, one side button and no eraser, they have a cap with a clip- Dr. Grip Digital for Wacom is allegedly very comfortable, no buttons, no eraser, retractable nib, here's one review

Hmm apparently the CP923 has some issues, and it's possibly inconsistent between units.There's also the S-Pens, the ones that would come with the laptop I ordered are unobtanium here as it was never sold in Poland. So I'm missing out on magnetic attachment to the laptop presumably. Any S-Pen should work though.So the CP913 is notable for being very good all around and the Noris Digital Jumbo is notable for having an eraser.

Apparently any S-Pen made for a Tab/Book with magnetic attachment should attach to any other one and I find that sort of compatibility amazing, Apple could never. Also every single S-Pen will work with every single device that supports them, subject to limitations around some extra features, which is also extremely impressive.

And the S-Pens for galaxy fold devices have some quirks where they actually send the signal for an eraser from the nib or something like that IIRC.

Hmm okay so how should I run Syncthing on Fedora Silverblue?There's layering, IIUC this slows down updates and is preferably avoided.There's running a podman containers as systemd user services. If the container is given host networking this is actually a very clean solution. Rootless containerized networking is still hell IMO, and not workable for a computer that changes what network it's connected to frequently.There's sysexts but idk what those actually are and the page warns they're experimental so eh idk.There's also running a flatpak, idk how that works with GNOME.

@navi @fiore this is also a social issue and if people keep pointing to the license like "I can technically do this!" then I'm sure many projects will reevaluate their licensing choices. Especially software with permissive licensing where adding terms like "if you distribute a modified version you must change the branding and support links" is trivial.

@privateger Natty has been ripping out Stalwart from our infra recently cause of some enshittification I don't entirely even understand CC @natty and so we've been looking at moxstalwart also has a shitty proprietary data format that makes it difficult to switch to something else IIUC
