@EUCommission I knew nothing about the google situation, but my gut instinct when reading this post was "LOL sure you are.".Guess my gut feeling was correct.The only decisive action you can take to stop corporate takeover is not performed with a pen and paper. We've moved beyond the times of strongly worded letters and punitive fines, and in to the times of civil disobedience as a public service.

@internetarchive The problem with libraries is that they are frequently subject to ideological capture and censorship of works they find objectionable.I don't want a centralized government subsidized knowledge base ran by busybodys who think it's their job to protect me from dangerous ideas.

@internetarchive @fight They're protecting their bottom line in the age of AI. Even popular news providers RSS feeds are being shut down to prevent scraping. I'm not saying its the right thing to do, but I am saying that a petition isn't going to change anyones mind here.

@itsfoss I bet it still phones home to brave servers constantly.I guarantee they're only making it free for Linux users because their Linux userbase is microscopic in scale and they want more telemetry data points.

@fdroidorg How long are we going to pretend google cares what their userbase thinks?The effort we spend in petitioning, lobbying, and protesting is wasted when the company isn't even subject to the most basic anti-trust law enforcement. If google is too big for even the largest bureaucratic machines to topple, why do we continue to throw our resources into the void, instead of using them to help create alternatives or fund advertising for FOSS?

These are folks who drive Volkswagens and Fords, take Bayer aspirin, watch Disney movies, etc etc.And yet they complain about you being fascist because your co-founder has the gall to have his own political beliefs.You know what sounds like fascism to me?The complete suppression of dissent and disallowing of "bad" politics from the "left".These people are no more left than Mussolini.

@itsfoss Too little, too late. I absolutely love GOG, they are my preferred platform for gaming.But I'm not going to run their client on my linux PC The added attack surface is not worth the ease of use.
