@libreleah @MaddieM4 May is great, happy birthday to me! I've been trying to get your port to compile on my secondary workstation here at the house but I'm still trying to figure out dependency stuff (I am in no way, shape, or form a developer). I think I've managed to tackle every dependency except icu-i18n. If I can't get it to build on my own I'll just use your -current port once it hits the tree since I tend to run -current anyway.

@libreleah yep I always adjust my login.conf settings to match my RAM and open files needs, but I've learned to leave the kernel settings in sysctl.conf alone. The defaults are there for a reason and I've learned that I don't know enough about kernel shared memory limits and semaphores and all that fun stuff to mess with those.

@libreleah @MaddieM4 Oh it's nothing wrong with your port, I just ran into issues building dependencies so I tried installing them as packages to both speed things up and avoid any compile issues, and that one package was being fiddly (the correct version from ports kept erroring out during compile, and (at the time I tried it the other day) the version in packages wasn't right). Trying again right now with a fresh install of -current on my most powerful dedicated OpenBSD machine, hopefully this time it's all in place and it builds successfully.

@libreleah @MaddieM4 That would be awesome and much appreciated! I still want to succeed at building it for my own personal achievement, but a pre-built package would be a boon to those of us who have been waiting years for a proper LibreWolf port. I feel like the intersection of OpenBSD enthusiasts and LibreWolf enthusiasts has to be wide and populous.

@libreleah @MaddieM4 In other news, all dependencies satisfied on my current iteration, and the librewolf package officially started building at 20:08 local time. It's an HP mini pc with the i5-6600T so probably similar compile time to yours, if not a little slower. Fingers crossed!

@libreleah @MaddieM4 Okay yeah this 35W CPU is...not fast. This will probably still be building when I go to bed in a couple of hours. But, this is the furthest I've gotten with it and assuming it builds correctly, tomorrow evening I'm backing up the main workstation and going full Puffy on the 5600GT. It should build in about 30 minutes on that relative beast.

@libreleah @MaddieM4 I backed up the package I built for safekeeping since it runs perfectly (actually a little faster than Firefox on the same machine). I tend to run -current so I'll just use your binary once it's merged.

@dosnostalgic Oki (formerly OKI Data) Microline dot matrix printers are still in production and are used in many government agencies that access NCIC and their state's equivalent service, for their reliability and, believe it or not, the unique sound pattern they make when printing out a HIT request (warrant search request that has to be responded to within minutes) from the TTY. As soon as the printer head makes that "daaa da da daaa daaa, da da daaa da da daaaaaa" sound you know you need to be in your warrant database ready to look it up.Source: I was a GCIC terminal operator and TAC officer for a large portion of my adult life before switching careers to IT. I sometimes still hear that dot matrix pattern in my sleep.

Nearly six weeks later, and the question of whether "AI" generated code in tmux -- not tool-assisted bug finding, not refactoring, actual LLM-generated slop with questionable license(1) -- that was consequently merged into OpenBSD base, is considered acceptable by the lead devs, remains unanswered. Despite Theo de Raadt's concrete stance against any code of questionable license origin polluting the project -- and the tmux merge was indeed questionable -- it seems this is being swept under the rug. This makes me extremely uncomfortable; it's like seeing a fox in the henhouse but the farmers are all looking the other way and no one can convince them to admit they can see it and root it out. I really don't know what to do being just a user; I feel like even if I tried to chime in on the mailing list I would just be ignored like the others trying to raise the alarm. I hope, as they do, that this is being discussed internally, away from the public list, and that a positive outcome is near. Maybe they are waiting for the 7.9 release before setting anything in stone. @justine I feel like this has to be a hardware issue, something in the -current kernel is not working with something (likely CPU but who knows?) with your particular hardware. Obviously this is difficult if not impossible to diagnose on your own, and I am pissed on your behalf that the devs are being dismissive about a bug report on the mailing lists especially as that is the project's preferred place to discuss bugs in -current. I'm sorry, I really wish I could help.

@justine I wonder if it will be found and fixed in the next snapshot? But that will likely require a kernel developer with your CPU and close enough hardware to replicate it first. I'd love to try and replicate this myself just so you have another voice to add to the report. I don't have a 10th gen Intel system here at home but at work I have either a 10th or 11th gen (I honestly don't remember) I can try it on when I have downtime. I'll see if I can find the time this week to attempt it.
