       @ariadne @whitequark For a brief period while I was in primary school (perhaps before common core curriculum) our teachers recommended a few of us to take IQ tests (each two rounds of one-on-ones with psychologists). Not all of our parents shared our scores with us, but we all knew the minimum score that got us into the gifted program.As an adult, I realized that I could probably get admitted to Mensa, but its narcissism turned me off.

       @azonenberg That's starting to sound like you're picking up radar, like the kind used off the San Francisco coast to monitor ocean wave heights. I'd sometimes pick that up on HF around/below 4 MHz. Your building wiring is probably a good antenna for it.

       @digyoursoul Wouldn't it be something if other unions such as longshoremen and teamsters started citing collective bargaining agreements as reasons they're no longer willing to unload or move Apple products.Commercial aircraft pilots also have a good union, which I expect would be sympathetic.

       @azonenberg Does the PCIe now attach directly to the CPU?I recall microprocessors (about 25 years ago) using one side of their square (-ish) package to interface with RAM and the other 3 sides used as HT (Hyper Transport or the other HT brand); these would link to other microprocessors or to a north bridge, which I thought handled the interfaces with PCI/PCIe and a south bridge.

       @feoh @jimsalter I used Ubuntu for about 10 years.But when they migrated to the snap package manager, I decided that they were no longer "reasonable".I shopped for attractive alternatives, and for the last few years have been running Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE), which has been better overall. (Also: no asterisks in my TTY password entry.)
