       In my bleaker moments, it really does scare me how wildly far our culture is from proper regulation to *protect people* against the abuses of LLM-based technology.Yes, I'm using the A word. I find the idea of being forced to engage with genAI to be abusive.You want me to *read generated text* or *watch generated video* and I don't have a “choice” in the matter (because it’s part of the some societal process like applying for a job or getting healthcare)? I consider that a form of harassment.

       Imagine being *forced* to sit in a room everyday filled with second-hand smoke, and you're actually allergic to tobacco.Or imagine being *forced* to work in a factory with asbestos, knowing your lungs are on a clear path to toxic disease.We rightly understand these are violations of human rights. There have been hard-fought battles to protect people against these ills. In some cases it’s *still* an issue (asbestos is all over even now!).I feel the same way about slop. *It’s a hazard.*

       WOW.With the news that Bluesky closed a $100M Series B (!!) last April and didn't tell anyone (??) until now, it's just become far more obvious that Bluesky is inching very close to its full enshittification era.You don't raise that kind of money unless you're ready for *massive* capture of eyeballs and ecosystem control.I am telling you right now, Bluesky in another year or two will look very, *very* different. (And tbh, it's not that great now.)

       This was sheer genius. Bernie got the chatbot to *completely throw these companies under the bus.* 😂Now they're in a bind. Either they *agree* with the magical talking robot app, in which case they're politically screwed, OR they say the bot was hallucinating and providing false information & poor analysis, in which case they're undemining their wizardly thesis entirely along with their quest to usher in the age of AGI.Bernie just completely pwned the tech bros!

       @FayeDrake Absolutely. It's like saying "unhoused people should be given houses" to someone whose entire unquestioned political philosophy is "only privileged money-making people deserve anything". You might as well be speaking different languages. Nothing will ever compute.Hard to bridge those divides, because it requires much introspection from people who probably find the process deeply uncomfortable.

       @tchambers I don't feel like this is the right framing at all.We counter Big AI's so-called "agentic web" by boycotting it entirely. We don't need a healthy, safe, and fair version of the Torment Nexus. We need it to not exist in the first place. It's an entirely flawed, cynical vision of UX which only serves wealth & power aggregators at the very top.
