@eff are we free to punch morons who buys and wear these or expecting privacy in public doesn't allow that, so instead if you see anyone wearing one pull out your phones are record them and maybe a crowd following them while recording might shame them to stop wearing them?

@itsfoss wrong approach, malicious compliance is the way to go when the governments enact stupid legislations. Now a law can be passed on top to make anyone using a non compliant OS a criminal, are these orgs going to help out any of their users who get caught out?.

@gamingonlinux i will accept that when a "normie" can download & install it on their generic x86 system just like any other "Linux" distro. Till then to me it is not much more Linux than Oracle Linux is. Any corporation that uses Linux to lockdown to their ecosystem isn't doing that out of goodness of their heart or what is best to consumers but to maximise their return to shareholders.

@fdroidorg leverage against Google goes out the door when everyone openly support what Apple does under the same disguise. This is a fight that was lost when everyone jumped head first when walled garden for phones was accepted as the best solution for the industry now almost 20 years ago. Kind of saying it is bad because Google also wants to do it now while allowing Apple to do the same is basically hypocrisy even though Google are hypocrites themselves for marketing it as as advantage before.

@dangillmor well what's the point of banning Russia if Israel and now USA aren't banned for genocide and illegal wars respectively?.. Either rules and laws are applied equally to all or just don't go on pretending they exist if applying selectively to anyone who isn't in the club.

@eff rather than focusing on physical, why not focus on sorting out online?. Remove platform store monopolies and store monopolies itself, like if you buy a copy of xyz from regardless of the online store it must be made available from any of the stores for that platform and force way to preserve games if they are to be delisted etc. So many things that can be done to make it better for consumers than trying to force say PS6 must support a bluray when GTA VI already won't be on physical media.

@eff inevitable, even if this fails, some idiot is going to cause a mass casualty event though some home made 3d printed thing and all the 2A lovers and politicians who keep on harping on how gun manufacturers & owners can't be even barely responsible for mass shootings will shout from rooftops how 3d printers have to be regulated & spied on and most people will just fall in line with their usual saying if you got nothing to hide got nothing to fear.

@stux so the dude is no different to majority of folks who stuff Ring cameras all over their homes looking over to the public streets, neighbouring yards etc recording others just going about their day and handing those to LEAs without warrants or put dash cams showing licence plates and faces of kids who are mere bystanders to an incident and justifying all of this as there is no privacy in public places but then take pitchforks to Flock/Axon cameras because it breaches their privacy.
