@gnome I've used #Gnome since it was added to Ubuntu, with some customisation to make it more traditional Windows task bar style. I love the multiple desktop support which helps me manage and switch between tasks (with shortcuts tweaked to move windows between each etc). Brave & LibreFox repopulate all the desktops after a reboot. Very slick.I don't like that you've added content filtering, and the "to protect children" narrative really grates.

@delta This underlines how bad it is for Delta Chat and Signal (and no doubt other security and privacy claiming apps) to leak private information and metadata through notifications.Please make it default to not showing either name or content and warn people if they change that.

ICYMI: some dork used #Claude #LLM to 'fix' an issue in #rsync and broke it (v3.4.3).#GenAI is shit and shld not be used for code that needs to work, even if you have the morals of a billionaire skunk. Lots of critical tasks, such as backup 🤦♂️ will be broken as people update their #Debian #Linux thanks to this stupid obsession and psychosis. How much will that cost? On top of all the costs inflicted on people who never touch the stuff and don't want to run anything built with it, like me.

@mrfoostang I understand it was the maintainer so his use of AI remains the issue. And if it wasn't, his willingness to merge GenAI would still be a reflection on users of GenAI.

@mrfoostang the problem in this case is that the maintainer accepted his own work, and that he's happy to accept that work, created with a system that is morally, environmentally etc etc harmful to himself and everyone. Trying to paint this as just about the maintainer and not all the nefarious malevolent bastard's pushing this poison is going to get you a block.Gen AI is the root problem, people being taken in by it is secondary. Would you be arguing for asbestos the same way? Probably.

@fribbledom If only that meant getting the things you want done, done. This is the problem with trying to control a computational process with a non-deterministic "UI".This is made worse by the non-deterministic nature of #LLM even when given clear instructions. But even if you solve that one you are left with the first problem.It is though interesting that I'm not aware of any #SciFi tapping into this obvious issue. The AI always gets your meaning, but may turn out to have another agenda.
