@Rairii if it's not a bother could you try removing the fix and trying to run Firefox nightly? You can find it at the bottom of this page: https://www.firefox.com/it/channel/desktop/Just browse normally, on a machine with the bug tabs will crash rather often. Submit the crash report and check it out in about:crashes. @Rairii this is something we've added relatively recently and it's only enabled on nightly builds, so if you were using the stable Firefox builds you wouldn't have encountered

Regarding the Raptor Lake bug I received a couple of messages from confused users that had read articles on Tomshardware and Neowin. They asked about erratas and microcode updates which puzzled me, because that was part of my early investigation into the bug and we know that the failure is not caused by a known errata and microcode updates cannot fix broken CPUs. So why did they ask? As it turns out it was slop. Both articles are 100% slop full of confusing and inaccurate claims.

From the looks of it editors on both websites probably fed the most prominent Raptor Lake bug we have on our tracker, as well as my social media comments, to an LLM and asked it to generate an article on the topic. The results are complete drivel that include claims like we fixed the bug (we did not), it was caused by a known errata (it was not) and was fixed by microcode (not possible, degraded hardware stays degraded). No human editors reading the sources would have made these mistakes.

I haven't read either site in ages but I can confidently say that you can stop reading both Tomshardware and Neowin. If they're willing to put out this kind of slop with blatant mistakes in it you can assume the rest of their reporting is also slop, and will likely be either misleading, confusing or flat out false.

@nina_kali_nina back when I worked on Firefox OS' I had to interact with the radio-interface layer and the 3GPP specs and my God, the horror. I consider it a miracle that stuff works at all. Kudos to the people writing the firmware for modern modems because they have to navigate a minefield.

I've seen this pointed out in an internal discussion and it's absolutely fascinating: it seems that the output of Anthropic's LLMs is becoming increasingly verbose and convoluted the larger the model gets. I also find fascinating the way it's framed by users in that GitHub issue. "Its anwsers are hard to parse", "it's argumentative", "it's hard to understand its answers", etc...People, this is a machine. It does not understand nor does it convey meaning. It does not know things and it cannot answer questions. Your brain is trying to put meaning where there is none. You're reading the statistical output of a very large matrix multiplication and assuming it makes sense. It does not. By design.

I hate with a passion any kind of reporting that describes problems among teenagers as caused by "screen time". It depicts it as some kind of flaw among young people who deliberately spend too much time on their phones.Call it for what it is: abusive practices by a handful of tech corporations. They profit from products deliberately designed to create addiction, and particularly so among children and teenagers.Stop blaming victims and start blaming the perpetrators.
