       @mwl Aw damn, we had to euthanize the last of my daughter's three rats yesterday.  😢 If the adorable little things lived longer, I would call them the best choice for pets, ever.  But they're adorable, perfect little heartbreakers.

       @stefano It's cover-your-ass engineering.  When dealing with a technical task, instead of asking the question, "What's the best option?" you ask the question, "Which option is least likely to get me blamed if something goes wrong?"At my job, we're dealing with this by proxy because of our customers.  They put language into our service contracts requiring us to use Amazon Web Services.

       @b0rk The best metaphor I heard for asymmetric encryption is this:  imagine two kings want to share messages without sharing their keys.  1. The first king puts the message in a box with two places for padlocks, puts his own padlock on one side, and sends the box to the second king.  The box is secure because it has the first king's padlock on it.2. The second king puts his own padlock on the other side of the box, and sends the box back.  The box is secure because it has both padlocks on it.  3. The first king removes his own padlock and leaves the second padlock in place, and sends the box back.  The box is secure because it has the second king's padlock on it. 4. The second king opens their own padlock and then the box, and reads the message.
