       @brettm These companies are providing services to support the war (as in ongoing data archiving, analysis, target selection, they operate the AIs that massage Hegseth's ego). Furthermore, the CEOs of all of these companies explicitly performed public personal acts of fealty to Trump, publicly giving him gifts of gold.Those CEOs are trump's vassals, they have levied their personal retinues to actively support his policies including his war, and they're gonna keep their employees in the office until they get blown up.

       @artemis I don't think the US political class even realizes that about half of the country wants to see the US completely humiliated here. Hegseth aside, most Americans don't seem to want to see (particularly white) people *die*, but they also seem pretty ok with data centers and five star hotels getting blown up, and Iran completely depantsing the US diplomatically.  I have never seen a national mood like this in the US, ever, and of course it's taboo to discuss on the vry srs nooz.  I'm telling people "we had no idea going into 1989 that the Warsaw pact was going to disappear, or that in 1991 the USSR was going to disappear".Trump is even more addled than Yeltsin, and insane on top of it.  The US government's financials were on fumes before this war.  The US is a continental empire based on a cultivated sense of imperial mission and universal civic membership.  ICE killed the idea of universal civic membership, and this war is destroying the will to empire.  What's left, March Madness?

       My kid and I are trying to get something done with an airline that requires talking to a person. On our third roguelike pass through the phone tree, it asked whether we wanted to "talk to an agent", and my kid immediately said "no", meaning we had to start again. I asked why, and my kid says "we're trying to find a person, not an agent".That's what, less than three years for my kid to associate the term "agent" with "having my time wasted". Good work AI industry.

       @ariadne There's a bigass FIFA 2026 sticker on the side facing north.  The city is not a theme park.
