@Lars@shitposter.world @Ree@shitposter.world Honestly, that is "almost there": https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/main/db/seeds/05_blocked_usernames.rb shows how the blocked usernames are filled on setup; there could easily be a 06_blocked_domains.rb that sets up blocked domains on installation, as that database table works basically the same.Obviously the instance admin can then unblock them, and that's absolutely OK.

@stux@mstdn.social To be fair, school shootings are usually ultimately caused by psychological trauma caused by that very school. Just the victims are rarely ever the ones at fault. Even the school itself usually was forced to cause the bad situations due to underfunding, understaffing and underqualification.As such, yeah, the right place for once.

Heck, you can even say "merry Christmas, Hanukkah and Festivus". It is not wrong to just say the one matching your faith, and I as a Christian would not be offended by any of the others. I would think "I celebrate the other one, but fine, thanks".They do not want to force Christianism on the US. They want to force a variant of it that disregards stuff like "love thy neighbor", and imposes restrictions on everyone else. But indeed, religious freedom does not include imposing on others your rules. As usual, your freedom stops where the others' begins.

The "land of the free, home of the brave" never was either.I guess when you get taught in school to worship a piece of cloth in stark contrast to one of the Ten Commandments, this is what you get - an utterly corrupted faith. No Christian can at a clean conscience utter the pledge of allegiance.I have to say though that most Christians speaking out against it do not even bring up their faith. Because the opposition is universal and although the faith requires it, so does common sense. There have definitely been past movements of Christians against overreach especially due to government intertwining (which specifically attacks religious freedom, and also freedom in general when then a government uses God to justify its atrocious actions). One of the many such movements was the Reformation, which finally brought everyone access to what is actually in those books; a movement that in theory should have prevented any further corruption.Too bad Americans cannot read...

It did not take a Kant to figure this out - it was written ages before.In the Middle Ages, the problem was that nobody could read it so priests made up random stuff to control the people (often at the behest of a government).Since the Reformation that should not be possible anymore... at least not to make more modifications... except IT IS! Turns out enough people do not want to read but use a religion merely as an excuse to oppress others. Most do not even read the "source material" it supposedly is based on, even though they literally have a copy at home. It is almost as if the Middle Ages are back.Another problem is indeed that most Christian denominations are particular much "cheating" to expand their numbers by baptizing babies. Most of those will never visit a church in their life, yet are counted as members regardless. This artificially inflates their numbers - and also leads to many such people decide to justify their bad ideas by their so-called "Christianity" they never did a thing in their life for.

Anyone into #electronics and/or #plumbing?In my home, I found some fun stuff from the previous owner. One thing was an "Aquaquant" branded thing looking like a simple steel rod that was connected to a water pipe with freaking cable ties. As if that could ever do anything.A more interesting thing I found was two spools of insulated standard mains wire wrapped around the main pipe then taped. Each spool was connected to the box on one end, and closed (insulated) at the other end.So all it can do is create an electrical field. There definitely can't be any real current - the entire thing is basically a coil, then a "capacitor" to the water pipe, then the water pipe itself being a basically zero ohms resistor, then another "capacitor" formed of insulation, then the second coil. If you ask me, just estimating, with frequencies below the GHz range nothing interesting whatsoever can happen there, as both capacitances and inductances of those must be tiny.So, well, what was in the box? Two boards:- One PCB with a transformer, four diodes; so let's all say it together: FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER and a rather large capacitor. That capacitor is rated for 35V, so let's take that as upper bound for the output voltage. Also, the thing powered a LED behind a resistor for power indication.- A second board, a stripboard (not PCB!) with some of the traces cut out and of course some blank jumper wires. This board contains a few capacitors and small resistors at the power side (probably interference suppression), then more resistor and capacitor stuff around an 8-pin IC socket. The IC turns out to be a 555.Now, I didn't plug it into mains, but I tried out the second board with my lab bench power supply in reasonable voltage ranges, and basically whatever I set it to, I get around 700 Hz square wave close to input voltage at the output.So now I ask:- What was that thing even good for? 700 Hz low voltage isn't gonna do anything to the water inside the pipe, which actually is a Faraday cage anyway. And all it does is a really weak electrical field anyway (I mean, at most 35V over 10cm distance - I get a stronger electrical field around a button cell) that turns on and off at 700 Hz - there should be basically no magnetic component as at such low frequency the current should be lower than anything I can even measure. AFAIK there's nothing an electrical field that weak at such low frequency can even do to water - even less so behind a freaking metal pipe acting as shield.- Why not simply have nothing in that box except for the LED? It's not like the 700 Hz circuit even did anything. Only for people like me who open this? But then all those already know it's BS...- What did the previous owners pay for that esoteric nonsense? I can't find any manufacturer name or label on it. Sure wasn't cheap...

#Smartmeter sind doof.Um den aktuellen Verbrauch zu sehen (was beim dummen Stromzähler einfach durch Zeitmessung pro Umdrehung mit einer Stoppuhr geht) musste ich einen PIN draufleuchten. Extrem frustrierend, ständig wird das Leuchten nicht oder als zwei Tastendrücke akzeptiert. Praktisch unmöglich.Bis ich die LED-Taschenlampe, die PWM macht (alle meine LED-Lampen machen leider PWM, auch Handy- und Fahrradlampen) durch eine Glühlampe aus dem Kasten mit den Autobirnen ersetzt habe. So ein 12V-Scheinwerfer mit Labornetzteil auf 6V betrieben erzeugt genau die richtige Menge an Infrarot, und wird auch nicht allzu heiß.Und kein PWM (und selbst wenn, kommt das nicht durch den Glühfaden durch). Das Teil reagiert also anständig.Was machen Leute, die kein Auto haben? Und warum muss das über ein so komisches Protokoll gehen, wo der Zähler nach dem IR-Sensor ja nicht einmal eventuelles PWM wegglättet?Mir scheint, als könnte man den geschätzt 100 Euro-Zähler mit einem 10 Cent-Teil erheblich benutzerfreundlicher machen...
