@newt far better is oh yay I have ADHD and one of my hyperfixations is cooking, that's why I'm chubby(happy to be among that crowd, plus cooking makes me "good tired" after I spend 5+ hours in the kitchen, as opposed to "bad tired" from 5+ hours on a screen)

can anyone comment on how good, or not good, search (for posts) is between self-hosted fedi platform apps good for single-user servers, such as #Snac2, #Mitra, #GoToSocial, #Bonfire, etc?I am looking for search which is actually usable by someone who wishes to find things and perhaps sort what's found, unlike that provided by e.g. Mastodon, Akkoma, etc.

@ariadne I recently decided to make it my entry point into BSD (on a Raspberry Pi 1, because of course it runs NetBSD) because it feels like just the right blend of quixotic and practical for me. but it was because of systemd drama, not the more recent thing.

@ariadne all the time, my daily driver runs Cinnamon and I use it to bring up the start menu (which has type-to-search focused) and one other DE I interact with works a similar way

@ariadne @juliank @tris @evana this is what I want out of an AI coding assistant as someone with AuDHD that's heavy on the "wait... what was I doing?" and who pays a huge penalty for context switches (which, ironically, so does genAI in many cases)my ideal coding assistant would be terse, knowledgeable, have a good view into whatever codebase I'm working with, and be able to help me stay on track.anyway just sayin'.

@ariadne @daemonspudguy @juliank @evana @tris interesting point on "mitigate burnout," because when I was burning out, heavily engaging with pair programming bought me another 18 months, and an ideal AI coding assistant (for me) would basically be a pair programming partner.

@ariadne the drumbeat of in-group signalling about genAI on here is at an absolute fever pitch. it's expanded to ~20% of my feed and most of those posts are utterly redundant and not worth reading. my filter set is expanding by dozens of terms a day.maybe now is a good time for folks to pivot from loudly ranting about the state of things and proclaiming that only good people agree and bad people disagree, to discussing what they'll do about the situation as it is (and not some made-up story).

@ariadne I currently have no opinion on the UX rework, but that's because - months of delay from a depressive episode and recovery notwithstanding - me and all my sockpuppets are soon to leave Mastodon behind forever.all these updates, meanwhile the list of common-sense bugfixes and small improvements users have been begging for for years continues being completely ignored (IYKYK) in favor of UX reworks and features like "newsletter mode."

@ariadne that's a damn good question, and my answer may vex you terribly.I'm planning to move each sockpuppet to a different self-hosted platform app, whichever seems least-worst for the given use case, and let God sort them out 😹if nothing else, after a year or two of that, I'll have much deeper knowledge of a number of expressions of microblogging on ActivityPub. my current dilemma is figuring out which platform app to use for which account.
