@MastKalandar You can add a new relay (even another mehl.cloud address) to existing profile and message your contacts if old relay does not work.

@MastKalandar not directly, but why do you need to keep the particular mehl address? In settings/advanced/relays you can add a relay (again using mehl.cloud or any relay from https://chatmail.at/relays) ... and then send you may send messages to your chats, and everybody will happily continue to chat with you, without changing anything. HTH.

@MastKalandar you can copy the danneskjold.de invite link dcaccount:https://danneskjold.de/new to your clipboard, you can also find it in the button on the website, it's basically the translation of the QR code. And then, in the view where you can scan the QR code to add a relay, you can click on "paste" to enter the link

While onboarding is extremely easy, the real challenge is to find initial contacts or circles to chat with. There is no discovery and no central registry. Every new chat profile is private and nobody knows about it other than your contacts. So we are curious. What is the current number of chats (1:1 or group chats or channels) you have with #deltachat apps? Not contacts but chats you have read or wrote something into, in the last months.If you are not using delta, please ignore this poll :)

@cyb3rrunn3r sure, feel free to just not answer or the below 5 option. We have indeed heard from people who use it only with themselves, multi device, for synchronized note keeping, file transfer, calendar etc, all end to end encrypted. And of course there are also many who don't use it at all, but this is not the topic of the poll. Could have made this clearer.

@cdonat are you using a classic email address or a chatmail relay? Chatmail relays don't allow unencrypted messages, which filters out spam completely. But a chatmail relay address will only be able to talk to Delta Chat users, not classic email users. Here you can pick one: https://chatmail.at/relays

The tale of "convenience" is a bit of a trick. A lot of corporate provided services maybe were somewhat convenient a decade ago, but they are now increasingly authoritarian, and people tend to ignore how much time they steal. Total number of hours spent solving captchas or consent screens with #deltachat #chatmail and #webxdc apps: 0 (zero). Nada. Zilch. @innocentzero @woof https://chatmail.at is not traditional email .... It even can use http to transport messages between servers these days, and enforces e2ee messages across the federated "relay" network. In #chatmail, servers have no "accounts" or any private data, and they are also not a source of "identity" which only lives on your device(s), and can make use of multiple and changing relays for messages transport. But no discussion needed if you prefer to exclude it out of hand. Cheers.

Reminder: There are no accounts in the classic sense anywhere with #chatmail or #deltachat. It's all private profiles on end user devices which co-ordinate in a #p2p fashion. Chat profiles *use* email (relay) addresses for transporting messages through a federated e2ee-restricted SMTP network. A chat profile or chat group has zero data on the server. It's radically different from classic email servers, Whatsapp, Signal, XMPP and Matrix servers which host and control chat identity.

@tael we can't offer a full comparison but here are three key points: 1. Tox is not a cross-platform user offering like #deltachat, but more an infrastructure library like https://github.com/chatmail/core 2. Tox can only transfer messages between contacts who are online at the same time. complicates mobile usage.3. Tox depends on a global distributed hash table (DHT) to find other contacts; doesn't work in highly restricted networks like during national internet shutdowns/larger failures etc.

@codewizard @bjoern_tantau This looks like a spam email. What kind of address are you using for your profile, a mailo.com address? We recommend to use a chatmail relay instead of a classic email address, e.g. from https://chatmail.at/relays, to avoid getting spammed.

@RoninVS wir nutzen es selbst viel, und kennen auch viele, die das tun. Im chatmail-relay netzwerk gibt es kaum Probleme mit der Nachrichtenzustellung. Bei klassischen email providern gibt es spam-filter oder configs, die die Nachrichstenzustellung unsicher machen koennen, abgesehen von fehlenden Push notifications. Es ist natürlich nicht auszuschliessen, dass es bugs gibt, gerade auch bei Calls auf bestimmten Geraeten, aber das wird eher auf https://support.delta.chat diskutiert.
