@ariadne yeah, I'm coming to that conclusion now.Last year pixelfed.social had 250k new people join in a week, briefly becoming the largest MAU fediverse server.It was chaos, and thankfully I over engineered a few things, I was able to run it on $2k of digitial ocean droplets (one app server + redis and one db server).php and mysql is boring, but it's scalable and pretty performant

@ariadne flagship servers are essential, otherwise the ecosystem loses trust because we've seen countless instances shut down.pixelfed.social and mastodon.social are like pretty much guaranteed to keep running forever due to sustained funding.

@ariadne haha same, I just started writing my talk on Monday but it’s almost ready.This time i am rehearsing my timing and delivery because last year I was talking fast and so focused on my notes instead of the audience.I’m terrified to watch my keynote from last year, I finished 20 mins early 😬

@ariadne security fixes, support for https://trycap.dev and much improved i18n.I'm preparing a new release with a refactored federation system, with support for new http sigs, better support for non-mastodon software, quotes, threading and more, oh and like 100 tests to ensure there are no federation regressions (long overdue lol)

We defaulted to allow for public accounts, instead of disabled by default like Loops, Mastodon make the right choice in opt-out)
