@ai6yr Uh, so what is in the 32 that went overboard and what is in those left damaged hanging off near dropping? @internetarchive But these publishers and websites are not protecting the content, content creators or in the case of Reddit, the users of Reddit. They are protecting their own content to select which Ai may have access and whoever will pay for content directly to them to pass their paywalls. The idea it’s to protect users (as in human) is just gaslighting. ““[The] Internet Archive provides a service to the open web, but we’ve been made aware of instances where AI companies violate platform policies, including ours, and scrape data from the Wayback Machine,” a Reddit spokesperson told The Verge at the time. “Until they’re able to defend their site and comply with platform policies…we’re limiting some of their access to Reddit data to protect redditors.”

@gutenberg_org I’ve observed that people who need to read and want to read are very different from the way many people prefer to get knowledge and pleasure. Why read a book or article if someone can just get a summary or bullet point list of the main information? People who are literate in a different language often can hear and understand the gist of information provided orally. People who stumble over unfamiliar words that are written can get the idea easily when heard. I enjoy controlling when and how I read for pleasure. I’ve got the type of time allowed to pick up a book, read a little and come back later. I can read myself to sleep. I can be so happy with what I’m reading I just speed through it, reading for hours. I like the physical presentation and notice the paper quality, tactile feel, cover art, seeing the shape of the written word. But for others, they enjoy hearing an audible book, especially while doing other routine tasks or exercise. It’s convenient to not even have a physical copy of the book. And. Hey, they’ve already got their phone and ear buds with them. I’ll read a book again and maybe several times over the years. I make space happily to collect my own “library”. Others, not so much. Lifelong reader and teacher, I see more people than not appreciate books in far different forms and with features I’m not even interested in. Sigh.

@eff And this is why I have not replaced my 14 Pro Max! Yay! Still using no Ai, Apple Intelligence or Siri in general. “Note: only iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max, as well as all models of the iPhone 16 and newer support Apple’s AI features. Siri AI is currently only available in English, and not available worldwide.”I am still annoyed CarPlay doesn’t work unless you have Siri enabled. And I am careful to avoid conversation if Siri is “listening”.
