I've been a Linux user for more than 30 years but I am really close to moving to FreeBSD as my daily OS. So many Linux distribution projects are, in some fashion or another, allowing the use of AI within their project. It's like the decision makers for projects are ignoring the ethical issues with AI and its use. I will never support this. I don't care how "helpful" people think AI is or will be.Is FreeBSD as easy as Linux to use as a daily OS? No, not yet. But it's getting closer every single day. I will, of course, never move away from Linux 100% but will be keeping an eye on projects and how they use AI.On a separate post that I made weeks ago on this subject, someone commented, "Have fun being left behind, then." @SharpCheddarGoblin I do know that Elementary OS is against its use, which is great to see. I've been a Debian user for so many years. They currently do not use AI for anything but are talking about allowing its use for developers. I am hoping it gets turned down quickly. This is what made me think about moving to FreeBSD.

When Mozilla released Firefox 148.0 with the "AI kill switch", I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and give it a try. It worked...for a while. With the 148.0.2 update, however, the kill switch was disabled and a lot of my settings had changed. That's it. That's the one chance I was going to give them but Firefox, once again, has been removed from all of my hardware. I can no longer trust Mozilla to do the right thing. @GullumLuvl I understand the point(s) the author is trying to make, and it's a great post, but I definitely don't think either are doomed. I'm an emacs user of, well, so many years that I don't even remember. I also dislike AI for so many reasons and will never use it or supports its use. Just don't use AI in Vim or Emacs.There is a line in the post that I disagree with:"And lately, like everyone else in our industry, I’ve been playing with AI tools"I don't, for one minute, agree that everyone else in the industry are playing with AI tools. In corporations? Maybe. But only because they are being force to. If either of these projects start using AI in their code base (maybe they already are?), I will stop using them.

Stop using AI, people. I don't care if it makes things easier for you. You're sucking up water, burning the planet, models were trained on stolen data, and you're making the rich even richer. And I didn't even list all of the issues with AI.

So, today I was called a "Luddite" because I don't like AI.Call me what you want, but when it comes to folks losing their jobs, data centers sucking up our water and causing higher energy bills for people already struggling, LLMs being trained on stolen data, and so many other ethical issues, I won't budge or back down on how I feel.I will proudly accept the Luddite label.
