@lanodan @mgorny I would like to see what an LLM trained on Public Domain datasets and running offline would be able to do and at what cost.The main arguments against LLMs are: - They're built on unethically sourced material and their output is legally dubious - The claims that they save money are based on loss-leader subsidiesThe main arguments for LLMs are: - They're so useful and make people productive - They save money compared to hiring expertsIf an offline, ethical LLM actually allows me to make complex changes to a codebase in reduced time, I'd happily use it. If it's hopelessly bad or costly, it's an admission that its current supposed value is a mirage propped up by smoke and mirrors, that it can't work without plagiarizing and/or doesn't provide net value to society.

I don't quite know how to handle what an amazing album "90125" is.I can go for years not listening to it, and then it pops into my mind, I listen to it and it's like, why do I listen to other music, this is such a masterpiece. This is my favorite song! No, this is! Wait, that's on here too?!?If you took almost any song on this album and put it on another *very good album* by any artist, it would be the best song on that album, really stand out. I first heard "90125" on my elder brother's bedroom stereo 40 years ago, and it is so very 1983, but also so modern.Some people rail against how modern K-Pop albums are overproduced with 200 layers of harmonics, but I love that shit. And 90125 stands up to that, it is so dense, so crafted, the voices such precision instruments, it's unlike anything else from that era.And then you listen to 9012Live. How did they do those songs live?! The mind boggles.

Watched #ESC2026 semifinal 1 last night.Surprised that Sweden went to final. It's a banger of a song, but the performance was unstable.This morning I went back and listened to the performance in Melodifestivalen. If she performs like that in the ESC final, she might win.

Even more surprised that Montenegro didn't go to final. Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, all three former Yugoslavs this semifinal had great submissions, but Montenegro was my favorite of all 15 songs last night.At least Croatia got in. Amazing performers, very cool song, but probably a bit slow for the EDM-heavy field this year. It's a real K-pop Eurodance field, and I think that's great.

Who are these hyper-tuned-in people who perceive and report earth tremors?There was an earthquake in Guangxi last night (magnitude 5.2, 10 km deep) and apparently some people in HK reported it to the Observatory. What was felt here must have been weaker than the bass speaker in my crappy old TV, because I was awake and watching Eurovision and didn't notice a thing.
